TJ Arts sponsors several scholarships for graduating high-school seniors living in West Jefferson Hills School District who study and excel in any facet of the arts. This year we are proud to offer up to $10,000 in scholarships!
Students may study from a variety of artistic disciplines, including theatre, vocal music, instrumental music, dance, studio arts, digital arts, literary arts, arts education, arts management, arts production and design, fashion design, architecture, and culinary arts. We have created a universal application for students to apply by Friday, April 19, 2024.
- TJ Class of 1982 Scholarship: For all artistic disciplines (theatre-related majors preferred).
- Matteo Music Scholarship: For music-related majors only (instrumental music preferred).
- Margie Liberati Memorial Music Scholarship: For music-related majors only (vocal music preferred).
- TJ Arts Board Scholarship: For all artistic disciplines.
- Kathy Cecotti Memorial Scholarship: For all artistic disciplines.
The winners of these scholarships are selected by an unbiased committee of teachers, independent artists, arts educators, and representatives of TJ Arts. TJ Arts reserves the right not to award the scholarship if the selection committee determines that no candidates provide sufficient materials.
Eligibility Criteria for all TJ Arts Scholarships
- Student must be a senior in WJHSD graduating during the current school year.
- Student must plan to enroll in an eligible educational institution and intend to study in one of the arts-related disciplines. This must be verified by the candidate’s guidance counselor.
- Student must excel in some facet of the arts: theatre, vocal music, instrumental music, dance, studio arts, digital arts, literary arts, arts education, arts management, arts production and design, fashion design, architecture, and culinary arts.
- Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 also verifiable by the candidate’s guidance counselor. If extenuating circumstances warrant further consideration, please include an explanation on the application.
- Student should be actively involved in some aspect of the arts at their high school.
Application Requirements
- Complete the scholarship application form below.
- Submit an original essay of approximately 250-500 words, typed and double-spaced, describing the effect of the arts on your life and why you have chosen to major in an arts-related discipline in college. Include your name at the top of the essay and submit it as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file uploaded using the MediaFire FileDrop link at the bottom of this page. Please name the file as “YourName_Essay.”
- Submit at least one teacher recommendation. Teachers may be WJH teachers or private teachers of the arts. Ask teachers to complete the recommendation form at www.tj-arts.org/teacher-rec.
- All applicants must submit an artistic sample or resume showcasing their talent. Artistic samples may be a video (.mpg, .mp4), audio file (.mp3), visual portfolio (.pdf, .jpg, .png), or writing sample (.doc, .docx, .pdf). All files must be uploaded using the MediaFire FileDrop link at the bottom of this page. Please name the file as “YourName_ArtisticSample.”
- Students may be invited to do an interview at the committee’s discretion if more information is required.
- All materials must be submitted by Friday, April 19, 2024.
