In addition to our work with students, TJ Arts strives to enrich the community with a variety of cultural events and programs.

In our first decade, we created such memorable arts programs as:

Sweet Sweet Jazz: A flagship event, Sweet Sweet Jazz was an annual jazz concert featuring the student jazz bands from Thomas Jefferson High School as well as the TJ Alumni Jazz Band. Five decades of TJ jazz alumni joined together for this special evening of jazz for the community, led by former TJHS band director Ray DeFade. This event ran from 2010-2017.

Hot on the Arts: In June each year, we presented a cabaret-style theatrical performance called Hot on the Arts. TJHS alumni and other community members provided an evening of singing, dancing, and acting for the community to enjoy. This event ran from 2012-2014.

Rock the Arts: This casual, country-music event featured the Nashville duo Steel Blossoms with TJ alumna Hayley Prosser and Frazier High School alumna Sara Zebley. This talented duo performed alongside various acts at Rock the Arts, including The Todd Jones Band and Taylor Made. This event ran from 2016-2018.

Classic Crooners: TJ Arts created a special program for older adults who love to sing called Classic Crooners. Choral director Marian Bollman worked with seniors in Atria South Hills and Arrowood assisted living facilities, reconnecting residents to the songs of their past and to each other. This program ran from 2013-2019.

Tai Chi: Together with Jefferson Hills Library, TJ Arts underwrote weekly Tai Chi classes for WJH residents led by certified Taiji Fit instructor Chris Hitchens. This program ran from 2017-2019.

STArts Program (Student Training in the Arts): TJ Arts believes that all children of West Jefferson Hills should have the opportunity to follow their dreams. To that end, the STArts program offered free and discounted lessons and classes in the arts for students who showed artistic promise or interest, would like to study an art form beyond the boundaries of the classes offered at WJHSD, and whose families could not afford the extra cost. This program ran from 2012-2019.

Theater Field Trips: TJ Arts organized several trips for community residents to see professional theatre in downtown Pittsburgh, negotiating special pricing for the groups.
