The Matteo Music Scholarship was created by Joseph P. Matteo in 2014 to honor the Matteo Family—specifically, his father Joseph, who was a musician; his brother Ernie, who was a musician and music educator; and his sister Violet, who was a music educator. The scholarship is administrated by TJ Arts. This scholarship is offered each year to a graduating senior from Thomas Jefferson High School who intends to major in some aspect of music in college.
Normally a $1,000 one-time scholarship, in 2021, the Matteo family has decided to offer a $2,000 scholarship over two years to the most promising senior majoring in vocal performance, instrumental music, musical theater, music production, music composition, music education, or other major related to music. Candidates for this scholarship must be enrolled in an eligible educational institution in pursuit of further education in some aspect of music. The winner of this scholarship will receive $1,000 in 2021 and another $1,000 in 2022, based on their academic success.
The winner of this scholarship will be selected by an unbiased committee of West Jefferson Hills teachers, independent performing artists and/or arts educators, and TJ Arts representatives. TJ Arts reserves the right not to award the scholarship if the selection committee determines that there are no appropriate candidates.
